The anchor of the city of Belleville's town square, the conversion of the Hotel Belleville into Lofts on the Square came after years of work by Belleville residents to find a new use for the city's largest historic hotel. After being placed on the National Register of Historic Places designation list, renovation began in 2019 to turn the building into much-needed affordable housing. Lofts on the Square maintains the historic art deco design while creating warm and welcoming homes for residents age 55 and older of low income, retirees, and those with disabilities. Featuring 47 units, combined of efficiencies, one- and two-bedroom apartments, Lofts on the Square offers a spacious library and lounge in the original hotel lobby, along with numerous other amenities. The adjacent courtyard space provides a welcome oasis from the hustle and bustle of downtown living. Lofts on the Square offers onsite laundry and storage units along with a fitness center, computer room and community room. There is a $30.00 app fee per adult. Current rent includes utilities of water, sewer, and trash. Rents are subject to change. Current rents are from $648 to $854.

Pet Policy
  • Pets are welcome!
  • A non-refundable pet fee of $200 will be paid.
  • Only one (1) pet permitted per apartment. 
  • Full maturity weight limit of 35 pounds
  • Non-aggressive breeds only. The definition of aggressive breeds is left solely up to management.
  • All vet/vaccination records are requested to be submitted before the animal can occupy the apartment. 
  • PETSCREENING IS A PART OF THE APPLICATION PROCESS FOR ALL APPLICANTS.
  • A welcoming environment is paramount to all of our residents. To help ensure ALL of our residents understand our Household Pet, No Pet or Animal, and Assistance Animal-related policies, we use a third-party screening service and require everyone to complete a pet profile, a "no pet" profile, or request accommodation for an assistance animal. This process ensures we have formalized Household Pet, No Pet or Animal, and Assistance Animal policy acknowledgments and more accurate records to create greater mutual accountability. The cost for the Household Pet is $25, ($30 if paying with a credit/debit card per year per household pet.) The No Pet/Animal and Assistance Animal profiles are free. If you are unable to complete a profile online and need help, please contact your housing provider.
